Selwood Pump Company Limited pledges to cut environmental impact
Leading pump manufacturer Selwood Pump Company Limited has made the West Midlands Net Zero Pledge to cut its environmental impact and help clients reduce their carbon footprint.
Hall Green-based Selwood Pump Company Limited, which supplies a wide range of pumps for diverse industry sectors including oil and car manufacturing, has taken on the pledge to reduce not just its own energy consumption but also the amount needed by clients who use their equipment.
Administered by Sustainability West Midlands on behalf of the West Midlands Combined Authority, the West Midlands Net Zero Business Pledge is undertaken by businesses wanting to be part of the region’s drive to “become a net zero carbon economy by 2041”.
In business since 1967, Selwood builds on a strong engineering heritage by manufacturing pumps used by clients worldwide. British designed and produced, Selwood’s products are built to last by the skilled team, with several pumps still in use after more than 40 years.
Selwood pumps are used in a range of industries, including in oil transfer and processing in ocean-going tankers and in the paint equipment for leading car manufacturers. Selwood products are also put to work by water authorities and steel processing plants.
Proud to be part of Birmingham’s industrial Selwood continues to innovate, with recent launches including bespoke pump solutions for operation on customer specific applications.
Managing Director Graham Gallen, who has worked for the company for nearly 40 years, said Selwood was pleased to sign up for the Pledge to shape a more environmentally-friendly future.
He said: “We hope to reduce the carbon footprint and energy usage of our operations and through advocating the Net Zero Pledge standards among our client base.
“As a manufacturer of equipment for manufacturing and process companies we hope to assist customers to reduce their energy usage by supplying energy efficient options for our equipment.
“While Selwood may not be a household name, our products are used by leading brands at power stations, car factories, oil processing facilities and across all sectors of manufacturing, so it is important that we play our part in reducing environmental impact.”
Sustainability West Midlands CEO Anna Bright welcomed Selwood’s decision to get on board. She said: “With the West Midlands acting as a leader in the green industrial revolution, we plan to become a net zero carbon economy by 2041 so we are pleased Selwood have joined more than 100 organisations in the West Midlands leading the way, by making a net zero pledge.
“Businesses which work with us demonstrate their commitment to reducing their carbon footprint and reaching net zero, with access to expert advice around translating their pledge into actions.”
The pledge comes after Selwood joined the British Pump Manufacturers Association (BPMA), the organisation set up to represent the business interests of UK and Irish suppliers of liquid pumps, earlier this year to promote its work in the industry.
Based in West Bromwich, the BPMA increases sector awareness by providing technical support and pump technology training to members, operators and purchasers of pumping equipment”.
