Dubai Airport keeps Storm Water under Control.
Dubai International Airport (DBX) is the world’s busiest airport by international passenger traffic and the sixth busiest cargo airport in the world. Located in the Al Garhoud district, some three miles east of Dubai it plays a vital role in connecting the Emirates to the world. During January 2020, the region was hit by several days of unprecedented heavy rainfall which overwhelmed the airports stormwater management system, resulting in submerged runways, taxiways, and aprons – consequently, hundreds of flights were delayed or cancelled.
Engineers have been working tirelessly to upgrade the stormwater management system to reduce the likelihood of future disruption during heavy rainfall events. Cheshire based T-T Flow secured the contract to supply several custom high-performance valves for the demanding environment. The scope of supply included DN600 & DN700 metal seat wedge gate valves with weld overlay seats, controllable hydraulically damped DN600 & DN700 tilting disc check valves, DN1000 double-eccentric butterfly valves and DN350 swing check valves with weld overlay seats. Additionally, the project required several non-standard bespoke-manufactured DN750 double flanged centric butterfly valves with vulcanised EPDM seat, stainless steel disc and worm gearbox.
T-T are proud to support partners in the UAE and our association with high-profile projects. Further demonstrating our ability to undertake the manufacture and supply of custom valves exceeding rigorous specifications.
